What happens when you decide that the cute little tattoo that you got that time on a dare isn’t so special any more? How about that tattoo you really didn’t take good care of while it was healing and it looks like hell? Or even worse, what about those self-done or BFF done (we’ll call them tats) indescribable splotches you now have? Or the tattoos done by people that call themselves “artists” that really aren’t?
What should you do about any of those? Laser them off? Well you can try that and it may or may not work depending on the ink used, whether or not it is colored, etc. and that’s expensive and painful, more painful than the actual tattoo was.
So what is a person to do with this mess? How about a cover up tattoo or a re-work of the original?
Main thing to keep in mind is that a cover up tends to be larger and darker than the original so you really need a good artist and talk to them! Decide together what is possible to cover your existing tattoo. If you like your original tattoo but it just doesn’t look as good as it should or needs a bit of extra flair then you probably won’t necessarily have to have a much larger area tattooed.
Here are some examples of complete cover ups and a re-work. Keep this in mind if you have a less than satisfactory tattoo.
